I decided to find a trainer as part of recovery from a cervical spine discectomy. I am a physician and I have discovered in Laura a whole new level of rehab care. She has been able to assess my body and develop exercise routines to strengthen weak muscles and correct imbalances affecting my posture.
I see her one hour each Tuesday and then I have plenty of “homework ” to do at the gym on Thursday and Saturday with weights. I also do stretches and core exercises at home each morning. I began getting some pain relief almost immediately and could see improvement in strength by 6 weeks. Now I hardly recognize my newly toned abdomen in the mirror.
Laura has varied my workout over the last 7 months to not only address the muscles weakened by my nerve injury and surgery, but also to address underlying muscle imbalances that set me up for injury in the first place. She is always coming up with some new exercise gadget to try.
She remains cheerfully encouraging even when I whine. I see patients in my practice every day who have been weakened by age, illness and surgery and I wish I could send them all to Laura.
