Your First Appointment
When we first meet, anticipate spending about an hour with me in order to evaluate where your body is now, and what it needs to move forward. I take what you have done instinctively into account when devising our next move. Therefore, be prepared to tell me what you have been up to and how it feels, and what muscles you feel while doing the things you like to do. I will do my best to infuse fun into your workout! I will also make sure you like what I ask you to do, while educating you along the way. There is a lot of research on heart rate variability that makes this an especially important point.
Whether we meet in person or via Skype / FaceTime, please expect the following:
In order to make this successful, it is best to wear shorts or capris and a contrasting, semi-fitting top. Hair back if you have long hair, barefoot if possible.
We will look at:
- Your weight distribution in your feet
- What you look like holding still
- What you look like moving
Having some sort of reflective surface, also known as ‘mirror’ is handy, but in a pinch we can use oven doors or sliding glass doors. If you are with me, I will often give you stickers to put on the four big joints that we are interested in watching move: shoulders, hips, knees and ankles.
Standing in front of the mirror we will look for the following in your shoulders:
- How do they look?
- Are they level with each other?
- How do your arms hang?
- What position are your hands in?
- Any obvious twisting or offset?
We will then move on with the same process and look at your hips, knees and feet.
I want you to see as much as possible what I see, so that when we compare how you look after your exercises, you might notice a difference. Sometimes the difference may only last 10 minutes. However, we did open a window of opportunity and it is now our job to build endurance in these new, good, balanced muscles.
Whenever possible I will take pictures of you doing your exercises and email them to you. Please email, text or call me with any questions.
